- The book: We'll be reading La niña que llegó del mar by Sylma García González. Students are responsible for getting a copy of the book. If you have a Kindle, I recommend reading on Kindle for ease of looking up vocab without disrupting your reading flow.
- What level: Intermediate-Advanced students. Not recommended for students who have been studying Spanish for less than a year.
- Book Club Meetings: Wednesdays 8pm Eastern via Zoom. Wednesday, July 1st - Wednesday, July 29th. These sessions will be recorded and posted for anyone who can't attend live.
- What will the meetings be like?
- 30 minutes discussion in Spanish: We'll use the discussion questions that are posted a full week ahead of class for this section.
- 15-20 minutes grammar review: Questions about grammar and sentence structure? Bring your questions to this part of class and I'll help clarify!
- 10-15 minutes sharing sentences with new vocab: For students who aren't quite ready to jump into the discussion in Spanish, this portion of our meetings provides an opportunity for more structured speaking practice.
- It's more than just the meetings! Weekly challenges encourage active engagement with the book beyond our meetings. Students can practice reading aloud by uploading audios, reflect on the reading by responding to discussion questions, and strengthen their vocabulary by sharing new words and using them in their own sentences.

- How do I know if it's a good fit? Our book club gives you a structured & enjoyable way to practice your Spanish this summer. Even if you struggle to understand some sentences while reading, you'll still get a lot of this program! Practice your Spanish weekly and deepen your understanding through discussions with fellow readers.
- Are meetings recorded? Yes, all meetings will be recorded and posted the next day.
- How much are we reading?: The book is less than 70 pages and includes illustrations. Book club will run for 5 weeks, therefore you will be reading around 10 pages per week.
