Community Offerings

Challenges

Challenges offer students guidance and structure so they can consistently practice grammar, vocab, speaking, and listening comprehension. Some examples of Challenges we offer throughout the year include-

  • Reading Challenge- Practice reading out loud each week using suggested readings provided for all levels, from beginner to advanced. Learn new vocab from your readings and practice using that new vocab in sentences or, for more advanced students, summarize what you read that week. Students upload audios weekly and receive feedback and corrections on their posts.

  • Music Challenge- use music as a tool for learning Spanish. Pick a song weekly to sit down with, learn the lyrics, add new vocab to your flashcards, observe parts of grammar you're learning in action... you could even practice singing along!

  • Study Plan Challenge- learn how to create a Study Plan that's unique to your goals and your problem areas in the language. You'll create a realistic schedule for yourself and post weekly to stay on track with grammar, vocab, listening and speaking practice.

Weekly Live Classes

Practice your Spanish with a group of learners just like you! Classes are typically held Tues/Thurs 8:30pm Eastern and range from beginner to advanced. Some examples of classes we offer  include-

  • Conversation Classes (Intermediate - Advanced students) - typically held Thursday nights. Practice conversational Spanish with students at a similar level. Kerry tracks corrections and key vocabulary that come up during class, reviews them in the final 10 minutes, and shares the notes afterward for students' continued practice.
  • PR Comprehension and Conversation- in this class, we do some Puerto Rican Spanish listening practice and discuss and debate the topics presented in the video. This class is appropriate for intermediate and advanced students.
*Taught by Dra. Xiomara Rivera Pagán
  • Sana Circle- Discover how different ideas about language and identity influence your Spanish learning (especially for the Puerto Rican diaspora) in this Spanglish-friendly space.
*Taught by Dra. Xiomara Rivera Pagán
  • Beginner's Night- In this class, students work on listening, reading, and pronunciation with two short stories. Review and practice new vocabulary and conjugations used in the readings.
  • All Levels Game Night- have some FUN practicing your Spanish with games like Spot the Difference, Verbal Pictionary, and Pass-a-word. Appropriate for all levels!
  • Open Q&A Session- In the language learning process, 7 million questions come up! Questions about grammar, pronunciation, how to progress, how to study, etc. This session is for students to bring whatever questions they may have.

It’s designed to give you both the strategy behind learning the language and the specific tools you need to keep improving.
